Stop for a moment and take a quick mental inventory of everything you own. Maybe you own a home, a car or two, furniture, art, designer clothes, jewelry, musical instruments, books, collectables and the list goes on. Include in your inventory any money you have in the bank, investments, and retirement accounts. Perhaps you own a business or an interest in one…count it.
Now that you’ve taken this mental inventory, say a prayer of thanksgiving for all that God has entrusted in your care. That’s right, God has given you everything you have. And, everything you have belongs to God. God, in His infinite wisdom, has placed His confidence in you to make use of everything you own to better serve Him.
If we see our possessions as God’s possessions, we may better understand what God is calling us to do with them. We are called to share our gifts with others, including our personal earthly inventory.
We are Catholic. We are called to give to others, especially those in need. In addition, we must give of our financial resources to build up God’s Church. Tithing ten percent of your income is a start. If God has entrusted to your care in abundance, you must give back in abundance. Be a cheerful giver!
Ponder: in what ways can you give more of what you have? Consider your time as well as your other gifts.
Reflect: 2 Cor 9:6-10
Pray: Heavenly Father, help me to be a generous and cheerful giver.
